Menion’s number of cycles is virtually unlimited, the life cycle of the system is far beyond 40 years. The steel, about 40% of the investment, can be fully re-used through recycling.

Storage medium:

100% recyclable steel with very high energy density.

Free of wear:

The storage material steel is not subject to wear during its service life. The steel remains completely intact. Thus, no replacement of the storage medium is necessary.

Useful life:

Our calculation is based on a service life of 20 years. The useful life of the storage tank is significantly longer.

Value retention:

Steel has a high resale value. The steel storage thus becomes a "value investment".

UP TO 95% EFFECTIVENESS THANKS TO COGENERATION

The principle of cogeneration, combined power and heat, achieves an effectiveness of up to 95% (25% electric and 70% thermal). The heat can be instantly used for process or district heating. For reconversion, 25% to 35% of the heat is turned into power. The remaining heat, at 80°C to 120°C, can then be fed into the local heating network.

Primary energy:

Electrical energy generated without CO2 is stored as heat.

Storage temperature:

We store heat at up to 650°C; even above if required.

Efficiency:

The efficiency is up to 95%. Only the heat radiation and the fan reduce the efficiency.

Charge:

Very fast charging to draw electricity at the most convenient time.

Discharge:

Discharge as required over a long period of time; as process steam or heat.

Availability:

Simultaneous loading and unloading ensures maximum availability.

FLEXIBLY SCALABLE

The size and performance of our Storage can be adapted to meet individual needs – all the way to the gigawatt level.

Scalable:

The storage size is scalable. The output power for standard design is between 0.2 MWth and 20 MWth.

Installation:

The technology fits into the existing plant structure. It is brownfield-capable.

Space requirement:

The high energy density of the storage medium enables a compact design. The space requirement is comparatively small.

AFFORDABLE AND LOW MAINTENANCE

The LCOS (Levelised Cost of Storage) is between 2 cents/kWh and 4 cents/kWh and may fall even further in the future.

CO2-levy:

The CO2 levy on fossil-generated heat is completely saved.

Low maintenance:

Scheduled maintenance is only to be carried out on the fan.

Maintenance costs:

Only a few and also industry-proven materials and components are used. The expected maintenance costs are therefore low.

Operating costs:

Operating costs are based on achievable electricity costs and the number of charging and discharging processes (number of cycles).

Investment costs:

The costs are basically dependent on the required output power.

Our storage facility not only helps to save large amounts of CO2. It also works emission-free and safely.

CO2-free:

The storage facility operates completely emission-free! 
There is no CO2 levy on heat-controlled processes.

Thermal protection:

Complete encapsulation of the storage tank with high-quality, inert insulation materials.

Environmental compatibility:

Our technology contains no hazardous substances and is completely environmentally neutral.

Pressure level:

The system is encapsulated and operates free of inert gas with unpressurised ambient air.

Phase stability:

Storage and carrier medium do not change their aggregate state.
 There is no danger from leaking substances.

Environmental risks:

There are no environmental risks.
